We had one sister tell an experience of her making a return visit at 05:30 AM to make sure the householder was at home, as she had not been able to get hold of him for quite a while. You can't make this up. -

Today's Special Day Assembly Expenses and the $10,499 Deficit. Silent Majority?
by Tenacious intoday i attended a one-day assembly in my hometown.
i knew when it came time to read the afternoon expenses that it would be an incredibly high and ridiculous amount that was nowhere near the real expenses for that day.
sure enough, after lunch came the announcement.

The reasons they continue to have assemblies is that these are a major profit center. Good to hear only $500 was donated. I think many are subcontiously starting to realize it is a scam for money. -

"Getting Baptized Is A Protection...."
by dubstepped ini'm sure that most of us heard that line when we were young.
i never could convince myself of that, other than that it hung a blade over my head that would then be on the chopping block should i err in some way and thus they would be protected from me, but i also knew that i needed to do so anyway.
otherwise i'd be a pariah if i got older and didn't take the step, and i wanted to be good in their eyes.

It is a similar threat that the Catholic Church gives to parents if their baby isn't baptized...then it cannot go to heaven if it dies.
The JWs are in many ways not too different from the churches they despise.

TV.JW.ORG (September 2015) - Generation explained again
by Designer Stubble inguess the overlapping generation concept is difficult for most to comprehend.
david spane does his best to explain it again.
the cutoff date for this generation has now moved to 1992 (was once 1935), the year that fred franz died.

runforever - You are 100% correct on this comment:
So one generation is from 1893 to 2015 and counting? 122 years so far?

TV.JW.ORG (September 2015): Serving Single - Do not use JW dating sites!
by Designer Stubble inaround the 39:00 minute mark the focus shifts to a single sister who cannot find a mate.
at the 42:30 minute mark she states "i cannot believe it crossed my mind...to look on jw dating sites".
guess a new unwritten rule is added to the many oral traditions of these pharisees.

Oh, but there is great comfort. At the 44:00 minute mark: "Focusing on the ministry work can be of great comfort"

What does your baptism mean to you now?
by GiftsinMen ini was baptised on 1st sept 1990, 25years ago today.
it is still a date with deep meaning for me.
i never dedicated my life to serving any man or any organisation, this was my choice - as a grown adult - to serve my god through jesus christ.

Nothing really. It was the pressured decision of a young immature teenager trying to please his single mother...At the time based on the limited knowledge I had (information control) it seemed the right decision.
when much later I found that I had been deceived, I found this more than valid information to treat this "contract" as void.

What Convinced you to Leave?
by LaurenM ini've been posting here a lot, but these last few weeks have been very difficult for me.
anyways, lately, i've been thinking about confessing everything i've done to the elders and going back, but deep down, i don't really think it's the truth...so my question is, what convinced you it wasn't the truth and that leaving wasn't a horrible decision that everyone in the truth makes it out to be?

Decades of doubts pushed aside...then leading to my tipping point was the KM of September 2007 in which the Question Box showed that independent Bible study was not allowed and then the May 1, 2008 WT (page 18-22) discouraged use of translations other than the NWT.
So nearing my tipping point at the 2008 District Convention I browse the new publication "God's Love" (ironic title) that tells the readers they must shun DFed minor Children as they should Adults. I then knew I no longer wanted to be part of this organization and started a period of prayerful reading and research, which lead to my departure - fortunately my wife and kids following in my slipstream.
